  • My husband of 50 years had his second stroke, and I had to call 911 for the first time in my life. The competence, calmness, and quick response of your people soothed us both.  Their professionalism and obvious training made for an easy transition to the hospital.  I knew he was in good hands.  Thank you for responding in such a wonderful and rapid manner. We're looking forward to another 50 years!

HEMSI Search Dog Unit

The HEMSI Search Dog Unit (HSDU) provides specially trained dog handler teams to assist in searches for missing persons in wilderness and urban settings, on land, and in water.

The HSDU is comprised of all volunteer handlers as mutual aid operating in cooperation with other agencies as part of the total search and rescue operation. The HSDU stands ready to assist any person or agency upon request as a public service without compensation.

HEMSI dogs are trained in four specific disciplines:

  1. Mantrailing
Follow a specific scent to determine where a missing subject traveled
  2. Air Scenting
Used to find any and all live human subjects in a specified area without knowledge about how they may have gotten there
  3. Human Remains Detection (Cadaver)
Used to locate deceased subjects on land, buried, or in water
  4. Disaster
Locate subjects in collapsed structures or debris
