HEMSI Donates Ambulance to Paramedics for Children |

Non-Profit Organization Will Use the Unit for Humanitarian Mission in Honduras

Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (HEMSI) donated an ambulance unit to Paramedics for Children, an international humanitarian organization serving needs in Honduras through educational and medical programs. The HEMSI ambulance leaves soon for Honduras and provide medical care for patients served by the organization.
Paramedics for Children is in the process of relocating its international headquarters from North Carolina to the City of Madison. In addition to HEMSI's assistance, both the Madison Rotary and Greater Huntsville Rotary Clubs are very active in supporting this organization.

HEMSI played a critical role in saving a a near-drowning victim in the Tennessee River. By standers said "the phone wasn't even cold" by the time HEMSI arrived and that HEMSI saved the man's life. "The HEMSI guys were heroes."

HEMSI observed National Emergency Medical Services Week May 17-21 with multiple activities. Beginning with Employee Appreciation Night at the Huntsville Stars on Monday, HEMSI then highlighted services at UAH for area students at Drinking Water Festival, visited Sparkman High School to see a demonstration by first students to complete the EMT dual enrollment training class, showed appreciation to firefighters and other fellow first responders with the annual Barbeque Fest, and participated in Career Day at Rainbow elementary to showcase careers in EMS occupations. |

HEMSI Celebrates New Madison Station |

Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. employees and board members welcomed elected leaders and special guests at the grand opening ceremonies for the new HEMSI Madison Station. The new 5,000 square-foot emergency response facility became operational in December and is servicing a current call volume of 250+ calls per month in the northern Madison area.
The new station can house up to 6 vehicles/equipment trailers and has capacity for two full crews -- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. HEMSI expects to increase shifts and service to meet growing needs associated with additional medical facilities and the new Madison Hospital currently under construction.

Employees Share Christmas Toys with Local Preschoolers |

With lights flashing, HEMSI paramedics arrived in a toy-laden ambulance at the Heart of the Valley YMCA's Downtown Child Care Center.
Employees of the entire organization donated toys at the recent employee Christmas party for area children as part of its "HEMSI Cares" progam. HEMSI then partnered with United Way of Madison County to get the toys to local children at their preschool.
There were lots of smiling faces as the children all received gifts with individual names on them, opened their gifts, and played with their toys. The preschoolers were then treated to a visit inside an ambulance where they asked questions and learned more about emergency care.

Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. employees and board members welcomed elected leaders and special guests for the dedication ceremonies of the new HEMSI Station 1. The new 8,000 square-foot emergency response facility houses up to 6 vehicles/equipment trailers and has capacity for two full crews -- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to service the current call volume of 450+ calls per month.
The new station continues the 50-year history of ambulance service from the Governors Drive location, and replaces the adjacent facilities built in 1988. The former station facilities will be remodeled into additional office space for the business office operations.

HEMSI Personnel Honored at Alabama Sports Festival Ceremonies |

Several emergency medical personnel from Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (HEMSI) received the distinguished Medal of Service as part of the 2009 Honoring Our Heroes program at the opening ceremonies of the Alabama Sports Festival State Games. The event Friday evening was held at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center and was the largest assembly of Alabama Firefighter and EMS Personnel ever recognized in the state of Alabama.

HEMSI Provides Units to Madison County |

HEMSI recently donated a 2002 ambulance unit to the Madison County Fire Marshall's Communications Office for conversion to a mobile command post. Madison County Commission District 4 also purchased an additional unit at a greatly reduced cost for use as an emergency lighting vehicle.
